Hermes Alvarado Salas, current Superintendent of Pensions of Costa Rica, has extensive experience in the country’s pension sector, with more than 40 years of professional background, also in the financial sector.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Banking and Finance from the Autonomous University of Central America (UACA). He has built a career marked by strategic decision-making and the creation of key legal frameworks for the country.
Throughout his career, he served as General Manager of BN Vital OPC for over 13 years and held high-level supervisory roles such as Financial Intendant at the Superintendency of Pensions (SUPEN) and Director of Financial Analysis at the General Superintendency of Financial Entities (SUGEF). He also acted as an advisor on supervision and regulation during the drafting and subsequent approval of the Organic Law of the Central Bank of Costa Rica (1995) and the Worker Protection Law (2000).
In the academic field, he served as Rector of Universidad del Valle and as a professor in the Finance Department at the following institutions: University of Costa Rica, Autonomous University of Central America, International University of the Americas, Fidélitas University, and Hispano-American University.
Finally, he contributed his expertise as a Board Member of BCR Pension Plans and as Auditor of BCR Brokerage Firm, standing out for his skills in leadership, negotiation, and strategic thinking.
