A researcher at Embrapa since 1981, he has a strong academic background, holding a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the University of Brasília, a master’s degree from the Federal University of Viçosa, and a Ph.D. in Political Sociology from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He has built a distinguished career in research, public management, and rural development, with expertise in family farming, environmental sociology, science and technology management, and strategic planning.
He has held several prominent positions, including President of Embrapa, Epagri, FATMA, and SOBER, and also served as National Secretary for Rural Development and coordinator of the creation and implementation of PRONAF. He has also been part of Brazilian delegations to international conferences focused on the environment and sustainable development.
He is currently President of Ceres – Pension Foundation and also Vice President of Abrapp.
